Billmon: Straight from the Ass's Mouth

The organizers of last week's "Confronting the Judicial War on Faith" hate rally apparently have confirmed my hunch about what they're up to. From the Nation:

The threatening tenor of the conference speakers was a calculated tactic. As Gary Cass, the director of Rev. D. James Kennedy's lobbying front, the Center for Reclaiming America, explained, they are arousing the anger of their base in order to harness it politically. The rising tide of threats against judges "is understandable," Cass told me, "but we have to take the opportunity to channel that into a constitutional solution."

(And major props to Max Blumenthal for having the stones to go in among those lunatics without a syringe full of thorazine in his hand -- and a fist full of reloads in his pocket.)

But according to Rev. Kennedy's mouthpiece, the desired "constitutional solution" isn't breaking the Senate filibuster, it's the religious right's favorite pet piece of legislation: The "Constitution Restoration Act," which would essentially make it an impeachable offense for a federal judge to hear any complaint that any government agency or official had violated the constitutional separation of church and state (which, of course, according to the right Rev. Kennedy, doesn't exist.)
