THE LOGIC OF BORROW AND SPEND: We’ve received e-mails each day this week which sound just like this John Tierney column—a column in which the Times’ newest typist shows that he doesn’t understand the logic of borrow and spend. Does Social Security have a trust fund? Or is that trust fund just a big “hoax?” Democrats need to understand the logic of these scripted issues. If they want to prevail in this endless debate, Democrats need to understand the logic of borrow and spend.
