On Conservatives

On humanity's long march of progress -- from the wheel to the printing press to the flat screen monitor to whatever we think up tomorrow -- there have been conservatives in the line.
They are the ones who, upon suddenly realizing that they feel safe and comfortable where they are, do an immediate about face in this long, marching line of home sapiens.
They turn their backs on the future, sit down on and in the path of progress, gather a pile of stones and shells around their real estate, and scream at all those walking around and past them that we are doomed if things continue like this.
Most conservatives die in this mode, wherever they sat down and got safe and comfortable. Conservatives cling to comfort and safety above reason or progress. To them, nothing is worth feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. They think nothing of killing anyone who threatens their comfort and safety.
Meanwhile, the human beings who leave comfortable and safe behind progress us all.
O Children, this is why human beings must die, in the great scheme of things.
Verily, if we were immortal creatures, then we would all be daily witnesses to the First Conservative, still dressed in bear skins, still sitting outside a cave in Kenya, still frothing on about how this fire thingy will surely destroy the whole tribe.
